Activities

March is Women's History Month
The Fall River Deaconess Home provides services that will prepare each young woman to engage fully and freely in an array of life systems which include family, community, school, and work. To offer these services the Deaconess Home strives to work with our young women and their families within the community, as well as at the program.
Tracking services are provided to our families while the young women spend time away from the program. A trained tracker will visit with the young women at home, in school, at work sites, or while they are on outings. This assists the family and the young women to transition from residential settings to spending more and more time in the community. This transition may be difficult for some of the young women, therefore, the program provides support to all those involved in her care and treatment. The program also provides phone tracking to extend this support during visits away from the program.
Tracking services also continue once a girl is discharged from the program. Routine visits and phone calls are made to the girls and their families in order to continue to offer support. The girls and families are also encouraged to continue contact with the program. The Deaconess Home has found, throughout the years, that sometimes the girls call the program for additional support and for assistance for future planning. Families have also utilized the additional support to keep the family together during difficult times.

Recreational
The Deaconess Home School provides an array of recreational activities for the girls. They learn to expand their interests and to engage in hobbies that are age appropriate. The activities also allow the young woman to explore and develop appropriate, functional social skills within the program and the community.
These activities include, but are not limited to, volleyball, soccer, crochet, rock climbing, skiing, hiking, ice skating, bowling, picnics, and camping. The young women are also encouraged to spend time within the community by participating in community-based activities. The program offers a gym membership to the local YMCA, and girls have also participated in pottery classes, kickboxing classes, and other activities within the community, such as sibling camps. The program also provides support and assistance in finding activities for the young women within their own communities in order to provide them the opportunity to continue to be active while they are visiting family. This also assists in the transition home from the program because the girls are already familiar with their community and opportunities they will have once they are home on a full-time basis.
